"ROLE PLAYING GAME OF THE YEAR!"
By The Makers Of The Bestselling Award Winning
Baulders Gate & Baulders Gate II Games!

You play a scarred, amnesiac immortal on a quest to discover his past, his identity, and his role in the conflict over the nature of reality. You awake on a cold stone slab in the Mortuary of the City of Sigil. You have no idea how you got there, who you are, or any of your past identity's. You must escape and explore the strange world to uncover the secret of your death and rebirth. Each time you take enough damage to kill a standard mortal, you fall into a deep coma, eventually to reawaken ready for more...

You define yourself through your actions, NOT through a character generation screen. You start the game with the barest of skills and abilities. Your actions in the game define how you develop - you decide how strong you will get, which career path to follow, which skills you will learn, etc. The game allows you to build your character to suit your gaming style.

This brilliant role-playing and adventure game focuses on the "Planescape" campaign setting of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game, and combines the best elements of Interplay's phenomenally successful Baldur's Gate & Baulders Gate II with an enthralling story line, well-written dialogue, and beautiful artwork and graphics. In an inspired choice, Black Isle Studios, the developer of Planescape: Torment, has chosen to provide the player, at least initially, with as little details about the story as possible.

After viewing a mysterious introductory movie, players guide The Nameless One on a journey through the bleak city of Sigil and its underground catacombs. The story leads from there to the bizarre realities of alternate planes of existence, where belief and thought determine the laws of physics. Through dialogue with hundreds of non-player characters, puzzle solving, and point-and-click combat, The Nameless One discovers clues about his identity and the circumstances surrounding his condition.

Gamers overwhelmed by detailed role-playing games will find Planescape: Torment easier to grasp; players can freely switch between three different character classes (Fighter, Mage, Thief) for The Nameless One as the game progresses, and learning the combat and magic system--with a simple point-and-click interface--takes only a few minutes. Literally hundreds of weapons, items, spells, and "tattoos" can be collected and affixed to The Nameless One or any of the several party members acquired during the course of the game. If you're a fan of role-playing or adventure games, Planescape: Torment's engrossing world creates a must-have gaming experience.

  • An Advanced Dungeons & Dragons single-player fantasy RPG
  • Throughout the game your character adapts to fit your own personal gaming style
  • A setting filled with sharp-edged visuals, bizarre adversaries, and strange magic
  • You can regenerate, speak with the dead, and have magical immunities
  • Built with the Bioware Infinity Engine, the same game engine used in Baldur's Gate

"Game Of The Year" -- Adrenaline Vault

"It's clearly the best traditional computer role-playing game of the year and is bound to be an all-time favorite for many of its inevitable fans. 9 out of 10. RPG Game Of The Year."
-- GameSpot

"Planescape: Torment will profoundly disturb you and refreshingly entertain. It's simply the most unique role to play in the history of fantasy gaming, and a worthy follow-up to Baldur's Gate.
4 out of 4" -- GamePower

"The story concerns the search for one's soul, and if one really looks into the dark recesses, then it isn't always a pretty sight. The Nameless One is for all purposes both Frankenstein and his monster at the same time. And, like the classic tale by Mary Shelly, Planescape is just one not to miss."
-- Games Domain

"In general, Planescape: Torment is a very fine game. Its gameplay actually responds to your role-playing style, with your own actions determining your alignment. If you perform chaotic or evil deeds, the game will respond differently--complete with different NPC interactions and memories--than if you were to be good and lawful. If you are a patient, thoughtful player, the game will reward you with interesting quests, good writing, well-drawn characters, and a fascinatingly different world." -- C/Net Gamecenter
